Alexan 185 under construction near 185th Transit Station

Photography by David Carlos

One short block east of the 185th Transit Station, the Alexan 185 apartment building is under construction.

When finished, the building will have 299 units (60 affordable). Unfortunately, the building was permitted before ground floor commercial space was a requirement.

Developers wanted to voluntarily put in a coffee shop, but the City code at the time required off street parking to go with any commercial use and they didn't have the extra space in the project.

There are two levels of below grade parking for 232 vehicles for tenants.

It is expected that the building will be completely leased within two years, especially with the location so close to light rail.

The address is 811 N 188th Street. It is a project of TCR Trammell Crow Residential.

  1. Beuatiful building and unfortunate to miss an opportunity for ground floor commercial on the tracks. I'd bet there's still time to correct this with a variance and engineering deviation. We really need comercial locations in prime spots like this.

  2. Good example of where parking minimums have shot us in the foot. Hopefully parking minimums get removed in the next few months.

  3. 230 parking stalls for 300 units. Means at least 80 cars will be searching the side streets of local neighborhoods to park.

  4. Sorry to see this type of growth happening in my old neighborhood 😞

  5. People will soon be living in cheap housing next to public transit so they can spend their entire life in their box, on the train and in their office. Here's to socialism at it's best. NOT!

  6. Terrible plan! The city and state leaders only see $$$$$. 232+ more drivers and people means over crowding and traffic. Besides, there is no such thing as affordable housing. The costs get put elsewhere and tax payers get shafted.
