City of Lake Forest Park obtains $2 million in funding for Roundabout Project

The City of Lake Forest Park's SR104 & 40th Place NE Roundabout project has been selected for a conditional award of $2,000,000 from the Washington State Public Works Board (PWB). The board approved this funding award on September 6, 2024.

This funding is critical to efforts to improve traffic flow and safety at this intersection. Upon completing the necessary underwriting process, the City will receive an official award letter outlining the terms of the grant and loan.

  1. A roundabout at this location is unnecessary and will serve as a speed bump on Ballinger....which of course is why they'll build it anyway.

  2. More information on the roundabout: https://www.cityoflfp.gov/DocumentCenter/View/9413/Attachment-A

The document makes a clear case for building a roundabout here. I encourage anyone skeptical of it to read the document and think carefully before passing judgment. Remember that other people use the road, and your usage patterns do not necessarily match other people's.

  3. Speed bumps are okay with me. We wouldn't need them if people followed the speed limit and paid attention ...

  4. I read the analysis and putting in a roundabout is a waste of time. It will extend already bad traffic in the mornings and evenings and create snarls going up 40th pl. I drive these roads everyday. Getting across 104 can be an issue at times but NOT most if the day. As for the crosswalks if they put in marked crosswalks on 40th there would be much less confusion. There are crosswalks across 104, they may not be close, but they are there.
There have also been only 13 accidents in 3 years, which you could probably say for just about any intersection. This doesn't make sense but a way to spend money unnecessarily.
