This is a big day, decades in the making. Link 1 Line extension opens from Northgate to Lynnwood, with two stations in Shoreline.
Ribbon Cutting 11:00am – 12:30pm in Lynnwood
Starting at 11am at Lynnwood City Center Station, Sound Transit will kick off opening celebrations with a public ribbon-cutting event.
After speeches by local leaders, the ribbon will officially be cut around 12:30pm, and riders will be welcomed onboard the new 1 Line Extension to Lynnwood for the very first time.
The Lynnwood City Center Station garage will be open for those planning to drive. Carpooling, biking, walking, or using transit options like Community Transit’s Swift Orange Line are encouraged.
Night Market 4:00 – 8:00pm at all new stations
The celebration continues at each new station along the route in the form of a night market!
Enjoy a range of events hosted by community groups at each new station. You’ll find everything from a bouncy house, food trucks, face painting, live music, giveaways and so much more. And don’t forget to play Discover. Stamp. Win! Along the way!
Shoreline will have night markets at our two new stations.
- Shoreline North/185th Street Station will be hosted by the North City Neighborhood Association.
- Shoreline South/148th Street Station will be hosted by the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce.
All 4 new stations (Shoreline South, Shoreline North, Mountlake Terrace, and Lynnwood) will be celebrating their grand openings, so hop on the train and check out the other new stations while you’re at it.
This landmark event will only happen once – show up and make history in Shoreline!
When we are on Link 1 Line and getting off at the 185th Station are there going to be buses people can catch? I am in a wheelchair and need to get to Aurora Transit.
ReplyDeleteI’m looking forward to this opening, but I hope the roadworks on NE185th st are finished in time.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting time for public transportation in our area.
ReplyDeleteMy grandpa used to work on the old trolley buses for Metro ages ago. He'd say "there's nothing sadder than seeing an empty bus go by." I bet the morning trains will be standing room only.
He'd be excited along with me for this new chapter of transit.
I wonder if the stations' elevators and escalators will be working
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this literally _every day_. :D I've already got the Greater Northshore Bike Connector Map updated to include the new stations and will drop it probably the evening before. I might also join the bike-the-route-extension effort being put together on Mastodon for the 31st, that could be fun too! But on the day of, I want to bike there and actually ride the thing. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI am very optimistic about the ridership numbers for this extension, but I also hope that Sound Transit does an exemplary job of maintaining a clean, sanitary & safe environment both within & outside of the stations. The vicinity around both of Shoreline's stations already feel so different.
ReplyDeleteYES! Hal-lea-lu-ya! Count all 8 of my blended family there -- with bells on! Now it will be possible, when the bridge opens up (the I-90 bridge) for my friend (or I get to him) to get from his house all the way to my house without getting lost or having to take so many buses! In addition I will be able to take Link to a Community Transit bus to be able to get to my Doctor's office on Hwy 99 on-time.
