This graphic is compliments the Anchorage police. Apparently we are not the only ones struggling with this concept.
At least we have lane lines. In Paris, traffic ten abreast traverses the Place de l'Étoile. This traffic circle surrounds the Arc de Triomphe at the intersection of ten two-way and two one-way streets. It has no lane markings.

Please, please, please, put something in the middle of the circles that is alive and visually appealing.
ReplyDeleteNow try it 1/3 that size with people speeding and not yielding to cars in the circle next to where they enter - just like on 185th.
ReplyDeleteThis is a tall order for people who don't spend much time driving in the UK, Australia and elsewhere. Lots of people couldn't find either on a globe - so yes, it is a tall order - especially at 145th and the freeway - got a map/diagram of how it will work with I-5? That's what is new for me. Never seen a roundabout mix up with a freeway!
ReplyDeleteAnd - while trying to make it "easy" someone in an earlier article said "look left, turn right" - ignoring pedestrians & bicycles at each new enter/exit point of the circle. Not good advice! Last thing we need is pedestrian/bicycle deaths!
As for the first comment - let's keep driver eyes on the road - not the middle of the traffic circle.
ReplyDeleteAs for the comment on keeping eyes on road, there are many traffic circles with plants and the asphaltification of Shoreline is concerning environmentally and psychologically.
ReplyDeleteHurray Diane ! please keep providing the useful info ""when the student is ready the teacher will appear"
ReplyDeletethere will be nothing green or growing in the middle of the circle as it might obscure the vision of a driver looking across the intersection - which is necessary as the crosswalks are set back and you might think you can go from North to West but ! Alert! There is a pedestrian crossing from North to South on the West side of the circle. And I needlessly capitalize the directions because I Can!
