FERRIES: Edmonds/Kingston run to add second boat on trial basis

According to WSDOT, a consistent second ferry will be added to Edmonds/Kingston run on a trial basis starting in the new year.

The route between Edmonds and Kingston is next in line in WSF’s Service Restoration Plan.

Starting Sunday, January 1, 2023 WSF will begin operating two-boat service on a trial basis as a first step toward full restoration of the run.

In recent months, schedules have changed most frequently on the Edmonds/Kingston run, where a second boat is added daily if crews are available.

The Seattle/Bainbridge, Mukilteo/Clinton and Anacortes/San Juan Islands routes already are fully restored. Workforce development is key to restoring sailings on other routes.

  1. I have lived in Kingston since 2001, but have come to Kingston since 1998. The Ferry wait for the ferry has always been an issue. The cars block the lined driveways, leading into businesses. People that live locally have to go around the traffic to try and go to the local businesses such as the Post Office or the Grocery Store. Car drivers have no consideration. There has been “talk” of rerouting the ferry traffic around, since I moved to Kingston. There is a holding area, but sometimes it is not manned by the State Patrol and people cut in line, and do what they want to get to the ferry. There needs to be another holding lane and then having crews with sat phones send cars a little at a time so local lanes and driveways are not blocked in town. Glad they are trying to get the two boat schedule restored. Kingston/Edmonds is one of the Ferries that need to keep 2 boats.

    Thank you,
