BLM supporters gather to chalk positive messages in support of Black teen

Photo and story by Steve Schneider

On Thursday August 6, 2020 a group of about 100 people came out to support a young Black woman that had been accosted by a neighbor.

People were writing words of encouragement with chalk on 9th Ave NE around NE 160th St. This  young woman is one of the young organizers in BLM Shoreline, which has been putting out really great daily information to educate folks about issues and events.

  1. Some bad messaging included here. “Assume you have racism”. That is a terribly insulting message. Racism is an attitude and thought process that makes assumptions about someone (good and bad) Based on skin color. It should be discouraged. Not everyone has it. Some used to but don’t anymore. And it is not about piwer. Also, blacks can practice racism as much as anyone else. The BLM organization has some racists in it.
Also, do these people agree with the tenets of the BLM Org? They are antiSemitic. They oppose the nuclear family. They advocate Marxism They oppose police officers. They favor increased aborting of black youth. They oppose Christianity. These teachings go against the views of most blacks.

  3. Young woman? I thought it was a 13 year old. There is much more to the story, please dig in, so we can keep these folks safe.

  4. This story is incomplete; please describe why this activity is necessary in *response to repeated, racist threats of violence against a thirteen year old GIRL* in our neighborhood. Please tell the whole story, based on eye-witness accounts, as this version simply contributes to the larger social problem.

  5. There is a lot more to this story. A few days later I saw people writing comments like a racist lives here with big arrows pointing at someones house and other hate speech - they describe as friendly chalk art. This has turned into a circus where the young girl is simply being put forward so others can get attention/traction on their personal agenda. I hope BLM Shoreline wakes up to this dynamic, as all it will do is undercut their credibility in the community and probably get people hurt and in legal trouble.

  6. Please describe some of the ongoing racist threats behind this effort - As Ridgecrest residents we deserve to know the danger in our neighborhood. At least 5 separate households in a 2-block stretch have been threatening physical violence towards Black children, including speeding a car through a group of Black and white kids doing sidewalk chalk and pulling a gun. This is not a cute story of encouragement - It is a look at the lengths Black families and their neighbors have to go in order to respond to constant threats on their lives.

  7. It looks like the post was edited and they removed some of the non sourced/unsubstantiated statements, but still ridiculous. As another post noted, please tell the whole story. Otherwise Shoreline Area News you will continue to basically serve as the N Seattle FOX News substitute for easily manipulated entitled white people living in north Seattle. You know the ones that laud the community as being a safe space to share diverse perspectives and then harass and bully their neighbors if they don't agree with them.
