Wednesday is the first day of school
Tuesday, September 3, 2019
Wednesday, September 4, 2019 is the first day of school for Shoreline Public Schools. Watch for kids standing in clusters on streets with no sidewalks, waiting for the school bus. Most bus stops have a resident parent, but some don't and kids can get a little squirrely.
Please don't run over them.
By the same token, do not pass school buses that are stopped until you are sure they are not going to put out their stop sign. Do not pass school buses that have their stop sign out on either side of the road.
The exception is a divided roadway - Aurora, for example. If a school bus stopped going southbound and put out its stop sign, both southbound lanes would need to stop. The northbound lanes on the other side of the median, would not have to stop.
Buses don't stop on Aurora - it's just an example.
Parkwood students will be going to a brand new school - hurrah for them!
Einstein students and parents will be navigating a construction zone. You are advised to watch the video before attempting to drop off or pick up your student.
For the rest of us - it's the start of the year. Calendar makers may pretend that it starts in January, but we all know that September is the beginning of the year. The only exceptions are for college faculty and staff - their year starts in October.
Proceed. And drive carefully.

Thank you, Whitney Potter, for your clever cartoons. I always enjoy seeing what you will come up with next.
