Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 2 to 4pm, at Sunset School Park, 17840 10th NW, the young bicyclists went through an obstacle course that simulated real-life situations.

They practiced scanning for automobiles, learned correct riding techniques, and how to avoid road hazards such as tree limbs, potholes, and rocks.

Volunteers assisted with helmet and bicycle fitting and helped prepare bicycles to be road ready.

There were hot dogs and face painting. Everyone had a good time while learning important skills.

Participating neighborhoods of Richmond Highlands, Innis Arden, Meridian Park, Highland Terrace, Hillwood, and Richmond Beach would be pleased to share their planning with other neighborhood groups who would like to put on their own bicycle rodeo.

Update 6-2-19: added Richmond Beach and Hillwood to the sponsoring neighborhoods.
