OLYMPIA — Annalise Korch served as a page in the Washington State Senate during the week of March 25.
Pages are sponsored by the senator from their legislative district. Sen. David Frockt (D-Seattle) sponsored Korch’s week at the Legislature.
“It was really great to host Annalise at the Capitol this week,” Frockt said.
“I hope that she enjoyed her time with the Legislature and got to learn a lot.”
The page program offers a hands-on opportunity for students to find out how state government works. The educational experience is furthered by guest speakers. It also includes classes with topics such as budget writing and how a bill becomes a law — which culminates in pages creating their own bills in a mock committee setting.
Korch and her partners worked on a bill regarding rape kit testing.
“I liked working in the Senate dining room,” said Korch. “The people there are really nice and the cookies are really good.”
Pages also have the opportunity to work on the Senate floor. Their maroon coats and credentials allow them access to all parts of the Capitol Campus.
Korch is in 9th grade at Nathan Hale High School. She plays soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, and the cello.
Sen. Frockt represents the 46th Legislative District, which includes all of Kenmore and Lake Forest Park, and a large section of NE Seattle.
Nathan Hale High School is in the Lake City area of NE Seattle.
