Kellogg Middle School wrestling faced two teams Thursday - and prevailed over both
Sunday, March 17, 2019
Kellogg hosted a pair of schools on Thursday, March 14, 2019 and proved themselves up to the task.
In their first match they faced off against the Eisenhower Patriots. Thanks to the Knights' superior depth they opened the match by receiving three forfeits for an 18-0 lead in the team score.
When Eisenhower did have wrestlers, Kellogg continued their dominance as they expanded their lead to 42-9. Kellogg never let Eisenhower get close thanks to pins from eight different Knight wrestlers, including a lightning quick 17 second pin from Shokan Conway-Yuasa at 103 pounds, as they pulled away for a 78-33 victory.
In the second match of the day, Kellogg faced off against the Guardians of Gateway Middle School.
Early on it was all Gateway as they raced out to a commanding 30-12 lead. Kellogg rebounded by picking up a trio of forfeits and a pin from Ole Burns at 128 pounds to take their first lead at 36-30.
Gateway was not to be denied, though, as they won the next three matches to move back in front. At 167 pounds Kellogg sent out team co-captain Cage Jensen. After his first takedown was nullified because of a slam call Jensen continued to be aggressive, picking up his opponent and taking him down straight to his back for a 36 second pin. The Knight's other co-captain, Ryder Baldwin, followed Jensen at 178 pounds and overwhelmed his opponent to remain perfect on the season and reclaim the team lead at 48-45. A pin from Ramy Abdalla at 188 pounds and a pair of forfeits gave Kellogg a final come-from-behind victory of 66-45.
