World Concern responds to Yemen hunger crisis

World Concern, a Shoreline-based Christian relief and development organization, part of the CRISTA ministries, is responding to the ongoing crises due to conflict in the Middle East.

They are delivering emergency food rations to children and families in war-torn Yemen, a nation on the brink of famine.

A New York Times article published on Oct. 26, 2018, showing photos of emaciated Yemeni children woke Americans up to the crisis in Yemen, and World Concern is calling donors and the world to not look away.

The agency is launching an emergency appeal in order to reach hungry children in Yemen, where food is scarce and blocked from reaching families in need.

“It’s wonderful that the world’s eyes are turning to Yemen, because the situation there is the worst I’ve seen in my lifetime,” said Chris Sheach, Director of Disaster Response for World Concern.
“The risk of famine is very high. We have been delivering food for more than a year. Still, 130 children are dying each day from starvation and disease. That rate will skyrocket without more support right now.”

With a mission to reach those in greatest need in difficult and hard to reach places, the desperate need of families affected by conflict in the Middle East is the kind of challenging situation to which World Concern is called to respond. Donations can be made online and will help deliver emergency food rations of flour, salt, oil and sugar, and beans or lentils to families in need.
