Bracket 3A girls' tournament

For all of you trying to resume your normal lives following the recent run of frigid weather and icy road conditions, Friday night offers a perfect opportunity to get out of the house, join with other members of your community (including any young hoopsters living under your own roof), and watch two of the finest girls basketball teams around square off.

Shorecrest hosts Snohomish at 7pm Friday night, February 15, 2019 in the Northwest District 3A semi-finals. The winner is guaranteed a berth at next week’s Regionals.
This game is a rematch of a barn-burner the two teams played on December 18, won 48-45 by the Scots on a three-point buzzer-beater by Sydney VanNess.

Both teams finished league play with 11-2 marks. Snohomish is 13-7 overall, while the Scots record of 18-2 for the season is the best in school history.

The Scots are led by senior post player Audrey Dietz, and juniors Amanda Lee and VanNess. Scrappy senior Amanda Kagarabi bolsters SC’s tenacious defense, and she is the emotional leader of the team.

A key matchup to watch will be down low, between Dietz and the Panthers’ Kaylin Beckman.

Shorecrest defeated Stanwood in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday, 59-42. The Scots had to shake off some early rust, following the long break between games due to the weather, as they led by only a 24-20 margin at the half. But a 22-7 third quarter gave the team breathing room and afforded second year Head Coach Carlos Humphrey an opportunity to get valuable playing time for his reserves.
