Cabin fever? A few places are open

Sunday, February 10, 2019

First it was alarming. How would you get to work? Were the schools open? Did you have enough food?

Then it was amazing and beautiful. Every tree looked like a Christmas card. Houses and streets looked like subjects for jigsaw puzzles.

Then it was fun. Saturday. A clear day. Hills to slide down. Snow figures and forts. Snowball fights.

Now you'd just really like to get out of the house.

Here are some possibilities. As always, call before you go.

  • The Local 104 on Ballinger at 35th - food and beer / wine - 206-309-4104. They closed at 9pm on Friday and closed Saturday so staff could travel safely.
  • Lake Forest Bar and Grill - Town Center LFP - Ballinger entrance - complete menu - 206-364-1261. They seem to be staying open normal hours.
  • Third Place Commons - Town Center LFP - they're down to two restaurants - Honey Bear and Burney Brothers - but there are other places to eat in Town Center like Mod Pizza, Everest Kitchen. Call first. 206-366-3302
  • Ridgecrest Public House - 5th NE and NE 165th - bring your own food - beer on tap, games, good company - 206-823-7792. Owners live within walking distance so it has been staying open.
  • The Cabin Tavern - 19322 Richmond Beach Dr NW - 206-542-1177. No idea if they are staying open. They just seem like the kind of place that would be open.

Any other neighborhood hangouts that are staying open in spite of snow?

We enjoyed a typically terrific Thai meal at Thai Bistro last night. 18336 Aurora Ave N, behind the Bartells on 185 and Aurora

Time Out was open when I ran by at 3:00. The Everest Kitchen sent us text coupons so they must have been open. Of course now it is snowing again so all bets are off.
