NE 175th Pavement Preservation Project |
NE 175th Street between I-5 and 15th Ave NE is an important connection in the City’s transportation network. It serves as the main connection between the Freeway and the North City and Ridgecrest Neighborhoods.
The existing pavement in this section is failing and needs major repair. The primary goal of the NE 175th Street Pavement Preservation Project is to improve the condition of the pavement between Interstate 5 and 15th Avenue NE. The project will include the following improvements:

Because the goal is to make traffic congestion worse?
ReplyDeleteOne lane each direction is a ridiculous idea. Have you ever driven on NE 175th?
ReplyDeleteThis is ridiculous, change it to a one lane road both ways? You have to be kidding. The road already backs up a lot on the 15th Street light, if they do this it will back up all the way past 10th or even back to the freeway. How anyone would think this is a good idea is beyond me, especially with all the new multi-use urban housing that is coming to the area.

ReplyDeletePost Office on 15th is gone to make room for new apartments/condos in the area. Light rail is supposed to be coming to the are in the next couple years. Both of those are going to INCREASE the amount of people living in the area, and traffic flow to/from I-5 on 175th is going to increase with it.
How can you consider cutting down lanes for car traffic with these two things in mind? That's asanine. Bike lanes are unnecessary on this stretch of road.
Leave two lanes in each direction. Provide bike paths on other streets...maybe 180th? I don't really see the need for a center turn lane on 175th. Sorry I can't make the meeting.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way I would use the bike lanes on 175th. The congestion will be worse as will the aggressiveness of the drivers.
ReplyDeleteThis is a stupid idea!! It doesn't take a genius to figure out that mixing large motor vehicles with small bikes is not a good idea. Look at the data. Bike, vehicle accidents are way up. Is the goal to try to kill people or move cars? Come on let's use some common sense!! With the population growth we should be looking to add lanes for cars not reduce them.

I would like to see the data that would demonstrate this is a good proposal especially with all the new housing construction in the surrounding area. Residents of LFP already pay an additional tax per car to drive on our roads & we would be rewarded by sitting in traffic congestion on 175th? And having more traffic outside our homes as people try to bypass the now over-congested 175th? This would all add to the current influx of rodents into our yards & cars because of all the new construction in the area. This is not a good proposal for residents of the area, it's just another headache/stress. However, it is a good proposal if the ultimate goal is to drive current residents out. Is there backing for this proposal from construction companies??
ReplyDeleteOne thing dumber than putting bike lanes on 175th (FTR: I do bike in 175th) would be putting them even closer to the 185th light rail station.
ReplyDeleteMeridian Park School (foot traffic down that stretch of road), the library, and the churches would all benefit from being more pedestrian and bike friendly.
I can't make the meeting because it's the same night as my wedding rehearsal, otherwise I would actually attend this.

As others have stated, there are much better options for bike lanes (185th already has one, as does 155th.) Those are great options for bike lanes because they don't also have Freeway on ramp/off ramps on those roads. I feel car access to the interstate should take priority over additional bike lanes, when there are already other viable options aforementioned 155th and 185th.
Anyone who has driven 175th during rush hour knows how badly it already backs up during peak commute hours. Reducing the car traffic lanes on 175th is only going to push that traffic onto other surface streets, and is just asking for our neighborhood to completely gridlocked once the new housing in the area goes up, light link arrives, and other growth factors continue.
Hope that the city OF Shoreline will use its head when making this decision and not just follow Seattle's lead of "MORE BIKES LOL."
I have yet to a see anyone on a bike even on 5th Ave since they added bike lanes to that road...I don't see the need for this at all. How about you all use that money to repave the street since it got messed up the last time you did it, when it melted three days later and left giant potholes.

With everyone calling this not a great idea, how much you want to bet they will still do it. If 8% of people in Seattle are biking to work, how many do you think are biking in Shoreline on 175th.
ReplyDeleteStupid idea. Look how messed up it is down Richmond Beach Rd. since they changed from 4 lanes to 3 with the center turn lane. Traffic backs up really bad. It is also affecting the traffic up between Aurora & Meridian because everything gets backed up. Why don't we have anyone that can use common sense on these planning committees? Seems like the ones changing traffic patterns don't actually use the roads they are messing up so they don't realize the problems they are creating.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT DO THIS! There are several large apartments being build so more people who are workers will be in this area. What you are doing is going to effect us spending more time driving to work and driving home. So disappointed how much you are screwing us over again and just do not care about people. From what I see you want to make money doing this bad change, then later to re-do it back to the way it is you are planning to charge is to pay for it so you get more money. That is typical Shoreline.
ReplyDeleteThere are NOT enough people commuting on bicycles to justify all of the exhorbitantly expensive bike lanes that are replacing traffic lanes in Snohomish County. And the TAXPAYERS are paying for it 🤨
