Obituaries are condensed biographies of people's lives, written by the people who loved them.

Like a memorial service, they tell us things we may not have known about the person, and may leave us wishing we had known them better.

Obituaries extracted from The Seattle Times

Susan Lee Arbury  1946-2018  1967 graduate of Shoreline High School, sang with the Adelphians at UPS. She later obtained a teaching certificate and a Masters in Administration. "Her passions were music, children, and animals and all three were incorporated into her everyday life."

Lillian "Jody" Fox  1930-2018   A bookkeeper in the maritime industry, "She also graduated at the age of 42 with honors from Shoreline CC with a RN degree and was proud until the end of her days that she had been a nurse."

Mary Elizabeth (MaeBeth) Hanley  1929-2018   A lifelong resident of Queen Anne, she was an avid volunteer, particularly for the Red Cross. Radio KIXI and Shoreline Savings Bank honored her as "Citizen of the Day" in 1986.

Shirley Jean Hansen  age 82  Passed away in Shoreline. She worked in the securities industry for 30 years and volunteered her whole adult life, helping to start Toys for Tots.

Joann Alicia Ohlinger  1930-2018   She worked 30 years in the travel industry and continued in retirement to arrange tours for the Women's University Club. She served on the board of St. Dunstan's in Shoreline where her services will be held.

Vicki Catherine Decker  1938-2018   With her first husband, she raised an expanded family of children, friends' children, and foster children. "Vicki's education, work and service to others continued throughout her life and into retirement." She was a counselor, world traveler, and artist.

Robert Lee Stricklin 1953-2018   As a child he lived in Lake Forest Park and attended Shorecrest High School.

Kathryne Marie Sutherland  1931-2018  With first husband Harold Olden, she raised her family in Shoreline. They were part of the boating community, which she continued with second husband Bert Sutherland. She was the Administrator of Four Freedoms House for 25 years. Memorial services at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Shoreline.

Kathleen Ann (Kathy) Tracey  1951-2018   Kathy went to Christ the King grade school, Holy Angels High School and Shoreline Community College. She was a nurse at Providence / Swedish from 1975 until her retirement in 2009.

Elizabeth "Bettee" Frank  1931-2018   A lifelong Roman Catholic, she died at her home in Shoreline. She worked 20 years for the Group Health Co-op Pharmacy Warehouse, retiring in 1990 as a supervisor.

Carole Rae Dean  age 86   Died peacefully at her home in Shoreline with family by her side. A Celebration of Life was held at the Gardens Condominiums.

George Paris  age 89   He was born in Ohio, son of a Greek immigrant steel worker. He married the granddaughter of the president of Republic Steel. During WWII he was a Paratrooper and Ranger. He had a successful career in Hollywood, then moved to Seattle to be with family. Services were held at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox church in Shoreline.

Dorothy Hannah Anderson  1924-2018  Memorial services were held at Cristwood for Dorothy Anderson, who had lived at the retirement center there since 2008.

Floyd Arnold Ivester  1925-2018   Former Lake Forest Park resident died in Edmonds where he had been resident at Sunrise of Edmonds. Services and burial at Acacia in Lake Forest Park. After serving in the Navy, he worked as a PBX repairman and retired from Pacific NW Bell after 37 years.

Velma Ama McLennan  1921-2018   Shoreline resident whose passion was gardening, which produced award-winning roses. Campfire and Bluebird Leader for 10 years, eventually winning Leader of the Year. She was a foster Mother who also volunteered with developmentally disabled children in the 60's. She was renowned for her fruitcake.
