New exhibits at The Gallery at Town Center

The Gallery at Town Center Presents: 

Monica Bretherton and Christopher Kroehler

The Gallery at Town Center is exhibiting a selection of works by Acrylic Artist Monica Bretherton and Oil/Pen/Pencil Artist Christopher Kroehler. See these works and the creations of over 90 other local artists during gallery hours: Tuesday – Saturday, Noon to 5pm.

Monica Bretherton

Monica Bretherton began her artistic career in Denver Colorado, where she was known for her colorful sculpture and installations. She moved to New York and went on to work professionally in film and finance, which didn’t leave much time for art.

After a move to the Pacific Northwest, she returned to artistic practice with a new focus on acrylics. Her chickens made excellent subjects, and painting them meant she could expand her flock and have as many roosters as she wanted. She credits them with helping her get her mojo back.

She currently resides in Arlington, WA, and is on the board of the Arlington Arts Council, whose mission is to bring more art and arts education to the town.

Christopher Kroehler

Kroehler was born and raised in Japan where he lived for sixteen years before moving to the United States to attend college. He grew up in a small rural town in Fukushima Prefecture and was exposed to the rich Japanese culture and the many artisans living in the region.

He graduated from the University of Washington in 1988 with a BFA in painting and began showing his work in Seattle galleries in 1989. For the past twenty plus years, he has been concentrating his efforts with painting on glass. He developed a method of dimensional painting, which utilizes the transparent quality of glass by applying paint to both the outer and inner surfaces, as well as the canvas backing. As a result, light plays a major role in the work by casting shadows onto the canvas. In the end, the effect is the incorporation of several separate surfaces into a cohesive and dimensional whole.
