Council proclaims July Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Month in Shoreline

Summer is here, which means it is time to get out and discover the great things happening at your local parks and recreation centers. 

This July, explore the “undiscovered” roles of local parks and recreation as we celebrate Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Month in Shoreline.

A variety of fun activities are available for residents of all ages and abilities — including Swingin’ Summer Eve at Cromwell Park on July 18, the Noon Concert Series every Tuesday at parks throughout the city, Shakespeare in the Park at Richmond Beach Community Park on July 25th, urban forest restoration events, low tide beach walks, and so much more.

Shoreline is celebrating Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Month as part of an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Playgrounds, sports leagues, and summer camps are just a few of the things that come to mind when we think of parks and recreation. But, parks and recreation is so much more than that.

During the month of July, discover all the ways parks and recreation can improve the quality of life, like restoring the urban forest to improve habitat and tree canopy, walking programs for active adults that encourage community-based exercise, outdoor education programs at Kruckeberg Botanic Garden, summer trips and hikes, and more.

NRPA encourages people that support parks and recreation to share why they think it is important to explore and discover all of what Shoreline’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services has to offer with the hashtag #DiscoverJuly.
