Shorecrest's Julia Strand fights through injuries to end her high school career at State

Julia Strand was the Scots leading scorer from the State Championship team two years ago.

She tore her ACL early in the season last year, and only through her dedication and hard work was she able to make it back onto the court, much less play at such a high level that she is expected to be named First Team All WesCo this season.

When she fouled out in her final game against Seattle Prep with less than ten seconds to play in the game, there was no holding back the tears … from her or many of the SC fans at the Dome.

But the sun came out the next day, as it always seems to, and the reflective and proud senior shared these thoughts.

It hurts right now for sure. It was a disappointing end to the season. We battled the whole way and we were pretty evenly matched, but it just came down to making and missing shots, and we didn’t come out on the right end of that last night. 

But, in the end I’m really proud of our team. It’s really impressive that we even got there when many teams didn’t. I told the team before the game to enjoy the moment and to be proud of what we’ve accomplished. 

I’m really happy to have ended my high school career on the big stage, even though I think we could’ve gotten farther. 

And for the season, we were always the underdogs but we really proved ourselves and showed everyone that we deserve to have gotten where we did. We always battled and we’ve worked so hard, and I think everyone else now knows what it takes, and will continue that on with the program.
