USPS Parcel 1 would be used on a temporary basis to park post office vans. Land is owned by City of Shoreline |
The site, at 20031 Ballinger Way NE, is currently unused, and would be used to park post office vans.
The deal is on the Consent Agenda for approval by the Shoreline City Council at Monday's meeting.
USPS has not announced where it will move its operations but several properties were named as being under consideration.
The lease would be temporary as the USPS is still looking for a permanent location to house both operations and parking.
Well, this may be better than nothing. But where will the Consumer P.O. be? The destruction of Shoreline’s P.O., which serves thousands, every day, is a huge fiasco. The City allowed this to happen. Some think they were even encouraging it.
ReplyDeleteThe USPS, busy workers and managers were caught completely off guard by a hidden clause in their lease.
And now, our P.O., which served 50k residents, workers and businesses will be displaced by two monster apartment towers, with no street retail and market rate apartments.
I do not believe this was done with the public interest in mind.
So much for "walkable", "vibrant", and "livable". Is this the so-called "progress" we were told about? Now we have to pony up a car tab increase for sidewalks while developers get a twelve year tax breaks under the guise of "progress" and "change". What a joke! Shoreline will be an example in future Urban Planning textbooks for what not to do.
ReplyDeleteIt is very weird that there won't be any retail at street level in the new apartment buildings. And if the other large apartments in the area are any indication, there will be plenty of street parking by residents who don't care to pay for parking in the building. Welcome to the new Shoreline ghetto.
ReplyDeleteI don't care where the trucks end up. I want to know where the post office boxes will be!
ReplyDeleteCan we kick Access Vans out of the site at 5th NE and NE 165th? I'm guessing the neighbors wouldn't miss the sounds of the vehicles being cleaned late into the night... Move Access up to Ballinger - win/win!
