Start planning for Back to School - your help is needed for 1300 students

August 26, 2017 at Ridgecrest Elementary from 12:30pm - 4:00pm

Did you know that one out of every four Shoreline School District students qualifies for free or reduced lunch? For these families and others, school supplies are expensive and not every family can afford the basic supplies such as a backpack, calculator, pens and notebooks.

The Back to School Consortium, a diverse local partnership, helps fill this gap for those families in the Shoreline School District who are living with a low income and/or experiencing circumstances in their lives that make it challenging to prepare their children for school.

On Saturday, August 26, the annual Back To School Event will take place at Ridgecrest Elementary, 16516 10th Ave NE, from 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm.

For the past 16 years, the Shoreline community has come together to support our students and their success. This year, we plan to serve 1,300 students.

To register to receive supplies at the event, visit the webpage or call The WORKS information line at 206-393-4916 and leave a message.

Opportunities to volunteer prior to or on the day of the event can be found here or feel free to leave a message on The WORKS information line, 206-393-4916.

Organizers are again proud to announce a $10,000 matching grant which will double all contributions up to $10,000. Make a financial donation here and look for the “Donate Now” button.

Donations of backpacks, school supplies, socks, underwear, shampoo, and conditioner can be made at the Center for Human Services, 17018 15th Ave NE. Other drop box locations include The Dale Turner Family YMCA, the Spartan Gym, Third Place Books, and all the Shoreline and LFP Starbucks. Look for the boxes with the yellow school bus logo.

A list of needed items can be found here. This year’s most needed school supplies are: composition notebooks, loose leaf dividers, pointed and blunt tip scissors, and fine line color markers.

Back to School Consortium Members include: the Center for Human Services; City of Shoreline; Dale Turner Family YMCA; Hopelink; Ronald United Methodist Church; The Salvation Army; Shoreline Community Care; Shoreline School District; Turning Point; and The WORKS of Shoreline PTA Council. The Rotary Club of Lake Forest Park and Rotary Club of Shoreline have generously participated for many years.
