Shoreline City Council candidates Carolyn Ahlgren, Susan Chang and Bergith Kayyali recently sent statements introducing themselves to voters.
The three are running in the August 1 primary for the position that Shari Winstead is leaving after two four-year terms.
The primary will narrow the field to two for the November 7 general election.
Three other Shoreline Council positions will appear only on the November ballot because each has only one or two candidates.
Here are the statements from the three primary candidates in the order their names will appear on the primary ballot box and in the voter's pamphlet:
City of Shoreline, Council Position 5
Susan Chang
My family moved to Shoreline in 2009 because of the great schools, involved communities, and amazing parks. I'm running for City Council to preserve and enhance what many residents love about our city.
I'm a civil engineer, City of Shoreline Planning Commissioner, former Girl Scout cookie mom, and community volunteer. From my experience in the private and public sector and academia, I would bring strong policy and technical expertise to the Council.
I'm ready to listen and to work hard to make decisions that benefit the citizens and businesses of Shoreline. Please see susanchang4shoreline.com

Bergith Kayyali
Having lived in Shoreline over 40 years, I love the cultural diversity, trees, open spaces and way of life. My goal is a green Shoreline based on sustainable growth and development. I want to prove that we do not need massive redevelopment to be a competitive city and that we must listen to the voices of the citizens of Shoreline who are against the massive rezone approved by the City Council. I will help preserve a City that cares about the future, honors our environment and respects the needs of all of its diverse citizens!

Are there any candidate forums left for city council and school board open positions?
