The abandoned buildings at NE 150th and 15th Ave NE in the corner of the Fircrest site were demolished on Wednesday. These buildings had been vacant for a very long time, and were in extremely poor condition.
What will happen to the rest of Fircrest is unclear at this point. The community grant request through Rep. Ryu's office to open the pools and activities buildings was shelved. State Sen. Dino Rossi, one of the main budget negotiators, wanted to close Fircrest and sell the land for development.
The state is supposed to release the budget agreement details soon, which may contain details about Fircrest's fate.
Fircrest lives! Dino and his greed Miesters failed again to destroy this treasure in Shoreline for the disabled!the vulnerable disabled people who call it home!
ReplyDeleteSo sad the the buildings couldn't have been rehabbed and used for low-income housing. Yes Mr. Rossi - let's develop all of our green space and have more intensive development - people don't need access to parks - no reason Shoreline can't look more like inner-city New Jersey.
ReplyDeleteI it should be developed for public use, something like Mtlke Terr. has. New, clean and not overburdened with apartments that nobody wants in our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThose buildings were not "abandoned." People have expressed an interest in using them for decades only to be turned away. The tug-of-war between the city and the state has justified this limbo until deep pockets could risk stepping in.
ReplyDeleteruin it just like terrace, bunch of worthless condos no one would ever want.
