Shoreline Athletic Director Don Dalziel was has been selected as the Co-Athletic Director of the Year by the Washington Secondary School Athletic Administrators Association (WSSAAA). Dalziel and co-winner Scott Nordi of Lakes High School in Lakewood were presented with their awards at the WSSAAA’s annual conference in Spokane on April 26.
Humbled by the honor and quick to shine the spotlight on others, Dalziel accepted the prestigious honor on behalf of his Shoreline staff, coaches, student athletes and peers from across the region.
“This is about the great team I am fortunate to work with,” said Dalziel. “Our Coaches and student athletes always do an outstanding job of representing Shoreline … I am the lucky one to get to work with all of them.”
Dalziel was nominated for the award by a number of his peers from across the state. “Don is a well-respected athletic director who is often the person whom others turn to for advice and guidance,” said Brian Smith, assistant director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). “His input to me and the WIAA staff is always a representation of his values as well as what’s best for kids.”
“Our schools and community are fortunate to have someone like Don supporting the success of our student athletes in their sports and in their classrooms,” said Superintendent Rebecca Miner.
“He’s helped create a culture focused on using sports to develop character and commitment to individual and team successes in sports and life.”
Dalziel began his teaching and coaching career in Shoreline in 1991 and has served as the district’s athletic director since 2004.
