Shorewood student receives NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing

Shorewood High School student Sarah Le was recently honored by the National Center for Women in Information Technology (NCWIT) with an Award for Aspirations in Computing. Le and Shorewood High School were named the 2017 Seattle and West Washington Affiliate Award Winner.

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors young women at the high school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. The Washington State Award will recognize 20-30 girls throughout our region. Winners are selected for their academic history, leadership ability and plans for post-secondary education.

Le says she has been interested in computer programming since middle school when she first taught herself several programming languages via online classes. She is the first Shorewood student to be accepted into Girls Who Code summer program, and has initiated a Shorewood Girls Who Code Club.

Last summer, Le participated in a six-week summer internship for Seattle City Light. She has been accepted at several prestigious colleges and intends to use her knowledge and talents to help close the gender gap in careers in technology.
