The snow forecast is becoming louder and clearer these past two days. It's looking much more likely now that we will see a significant snow event Sunday night into Monday and beyond. There is still some uncertainty in temperatures getting cold enough but most models seem to think that we'll see between 3-6 inches of snow.
Most of the snow is expected to start accumulating probably several hours after dark Sunday evening. The timing is still uncertain, so it could very well change over to snow before dark or after midnight.
Snow is expected to taper off into showers around 4pm Monday afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday also seem to be leaning towards a snow/rain mix or snow shower pattern before we warm up Thursday with a warmer Pacific storm moving in.
Of all the arctic events we've had so far this winter, the forecast models for this one have been the most consistent from as far out as 4 days ago, all leaning towards snow. Generally this is looking like a much better shot at getting snow than previous cold events this winter.
Bottom line: Prepare for winter weather, it is likely but there is still a 30% or so chance that we will not get accumulating snow. Plan for the heaviest snow to fall Sunday evening through Monday afternoon. At this time there are no winter weather watches or warnings in effect but I suspect that will change Sunday morning or afternoon.
