LWV of Snohomish County to honor Arlington Mayor on Feb 18

At its annual birthday luncheon on Saturday, February 18th, the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County will present its 2017 Democracy in Action award to Barbara Tolbert, Mayor of Arlington, in recognition of her record of civic service.

Mayor Tolbert was elected to office in 2011 and is now serving her second term. Under her leadership the City of Arlington has developed policies and procedures that provide clear guidelines for daily operations in all departments as well as providing planning and forecasting for future growth.

Throughout the Oso Landslide aftermath, she provided guidance and support to the staff and citizens responding to the needs of victims and families. The mayor remains involved in the coordination of the multitude of government and private agencies that have assisted during the nearly three-year period of active response to the Oso tragedy.

Mayor Tolbert has recently led the City of Arlington and the Town of Darrington in filing an application for “America’s Best Communities” Award. The lengthy process was coordinated with the assistance of Washington State University and resulted in their application being chosen as one of three finalists.

Pat Fogarty-Cramer, who nominated the mayor for the League’s Democracy in Action Award, said “I believe that Mayor Tolbert exemplifies the meaning of leadership by example and encourages the involvement of citizens in their government.
"Democracy is alive and well in this community today because of her desire to see it thrive and develop into a vibrant environment for future generations.”

The buffet luncheon will be at Everett Community College, Jackson Center, Wilderness Room, 1010 Tower Road, Everett starting at 11:30. Entertainment will feature Debbie Dimitrie enacting the life of Nellie Bly.

For reservations, send a $25 check to Judy Chapman, 200 James St. #205, Edmonds, WA 98020, by February 11th.
