Letter to the Editor: NUHSA endorses the Shoreline School District Bond
Thursday, February 9, 2017
To the Editor:
The North Urban Human Services Alliances (NUHSA) was created to build the community’s capacity to respond to human service needs in North King County, including the cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park. NUHSA provides a strong voice through its leadership role in local and regional decisions which impact our communities. The Shoreline School District Bond is one of these critical decisions.
Shoreline is fortunate that its school district has consistently created a strong foundation for our most important resource, our children. As the school population grows and shifts, capital improvements are necessary. Currently, the elementary schools are at or beyond capacity. Research has shown that class size significantly impacts a child’s ability to learn. These capital expenses are clearly an investment in the continued quality of life we enjoy in our community.
Another investment is the creation of an Early Learning Campus, which will offer coordinated services to our youngest stakeholders. By co-locating resources and services these students will all have the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential.
For these reasons, NUHSA fully supports the passage of the Shoreline School District Bond. It will strengthen our schools and most importantly, our future generations.
Heidi Shepherd
Vice President, NUHSA
