Shorecrest soccer defeats Everett 3-0 to avoid elimination from District 1 Tournament

Facing an elimination game just to qualify for the Northwest District One 3A soccer tournament, the Shorecrest girls defeated the Everett Seagulls 3-0, on a damp and chilly Thursday evening at Shoreline Stadium.

Lauren Brown, a junior, the Scots' most prolific scorer, sent a blistering shot past the Seagulls' keeper five minutes into the game to give Shorecrest a lead they would not relinquish.

Twenty minutes later junior Julia Strand, a defender, scored her first varsity goal following a kerfuffle in front of the net.

"It was our first corner kick of the game," a happy Strand beamed after the game.
"I called Gabby (Lacson) off the ball and kicked it. I knew it was going in as soon as I hit it."

When Brown was taken down in the second half by a Seagull defender, junior Maggie Taylor capitalized by nailing the penalty kick to close the scoring.

Senior Kate Wiper was in net for the Scots and pitched the shutout.

Shorecrest faces a tough Edmonds-Woodway team in the first round of the double-elimination District tournament at 1 PM Saturday. Four teams from District One will advance to the state tournament
