MakerLab NW pumpkin carving party Saturday

MakerLab NW is working toward creating a permanent, local "makerspace"

Trying to finish your child’s steam punk pirate costume? Converting a nerf-gun into cosmic blaster? Inventing a new product, but need to print a prototype on a 3D printer?

Drooling over Pinterest projects, but too nervous to try one on your own? Wishing for an art studio or a wood shop, but don’t have a safe space for it?

You’ve tried to get the knowledge you wanted from books and online tutorials but they don’t provide you with the tools, hands-on learning, or the ability to ask questions and get face to face answers.

Now imagine there was a space in your town where you could go, day or night, and create these things, go to work on your project, have access to tools you can’t afford or don’t have the space for, and someone to teach you how to use them.

Imagine a place where you could go to create, and meet others who create as well.

This place is what’s become known as a “makespace,” and there’s a non-profit group in Shoreline trying to make this a reality for the Shoreline community.

MakerLab NW is working toward creating a permanent makerspace to house tools such as 3D printers, lasercutters, woodworking tools, sewing and art tools for the community to use and offer workshops on all types of creating and making.

They currently meet in the basement of Bethel Lutheran Church, as well as other places around Shoreline and LFP.

Pumpkin carving party, Saturday, October 29, 1pm in the community room of Bethel Lutheran Church in North City, 17529 15th Ave NE, Shoreline (map).

On October 29 they are hosting a pumpkin carving party and will serve chili and apple cider. Costumes are encouraged and the event is free to attend. Donations are always accepted. They hope to meet lots of new people there.

Other upcoming workshops include Introduction to Arduino, Introduction to Robotics, Glass etching, and Intro to Cosplay. They welcome input from the community on what they would like to learn and create!

They are looking for people to host workshops. Do you have a maker-related skill (basic or advanced) you could share with others? Charge what you like for a workshop and they will help you by attracting members, and providing space. They ask for 50% of the workshop fees after your expenses.

Visit the website. View the calendar of events. Join the collaboration, creation, and fun.
