To the Editor:
What kind of human beings would sink so low as to hold hostage sufficient funds to fight the Zika virus unless their opponents agree to defund Planned Parenthood? This is obscene. This is extreme misogyny that affects the newborn babies of women infected during pregnancy. Furthermore, it is now known that men can also be infected by Zika-bearing mosquitoes and pass this on to their partners.
To what profoundly immoral depths are Congressional Republicans willing to descend? They’re playing politics with the lives of children born to women who have been infected with the mosquito-borne Zika virus.
Instead of passing a straightforward bill to provide the needed emergency funds to fight Zika, they offer only a bill encumbered with add-ons that have absolutely nothing to do with this spreading epidemic but are poison-pills for Democrats who refuse to defund Planned Parenthood, a health care provider that millions of low-income women depend upon for care, especially for reproductive care.
We should all let the Congressional Republicans know that we demand that they end this abominably destructive and immoral delay in funding Zika research.

Actually, there is very little evidence connecting microcephaly with Zika and a whole lot connecting it with certain pesticides heavily sprayed, particularly, on the province out which the supposed epidemic came. Don't buy into the fear-mongering by the mainstream media that steers us all to more pesticide use (supposedly against mosquitos!)
ReplyDeleteWell said! It's a shame that so many people demonize Planned Parenthood - but at the same time refuse to fund any other clinics that would provide similar care for women at a reasonable cost.
ReplyDeleteUNKNOWN - could you please give us a source for this information? I'm using reports in the news from the CDC.
