Letter to the Editor: Kudos to Shoreline Officer Paul Klein

To the Editor:

I had sent a note Saturday to Parks Maintenance about some graffiti that appeared in Paramount Open Space. Apparently others also called the police to report the graffiti.

To my amazement, we returned home that night and found Shoreline Officer Paul Klein on the job at 10pm having completely cleaned off the graffiti from the park sign and working on plans to remove it from other areas.

I am astonished and impressed at the initiative and excellent service he has provided by personally taking responsibility for helping keep Shoreline safe from the scourge of graffiti which mars our public areas and takes away respect for rule of law. He has personally done a great deal of this work for years, including doing the research on the best products to remove or repair public places that have been tagged by thoughtless graffiti perpetrators.

I thanked him personally, but I want to commend him publically and ask that he be recognized for his service. Our Parks are the pride of our community and I am very grateful for Officer Klein's dedicated work. I hope the department and the City will provide any support Officer Klein and other officers need to continue this work.

  1. I don't understand why this blog gives so much coverage to Janet Way. It's great that this officer painted over some graffiti. But, is that more important than some officer arresting a dangerous person on the street? The latter doesn't get any coverage because he did not cross Janet's path.

  2. @anon 11.16 - still bitter about the ongoing, major opposition to the ENORMOUS upzones, are we? You could always send in your own op-ed if you feel like someone else is getting more attention than you.

  3. The officer did a good deed, and I am happy to hear about it. We should be grateful to have such conscientious public servants who go beyond the call of duty. Thanks Officer Klein.
