Here's why you were in the dark last night LFP residents. It's the usual story. Weather, in this case wind, knocks down a tree. The tree falls on the power lines. The weight of the tree pulls down the lines, the lines bring the pole with them and the pole snaps off.
The power goes out, and the tree and/or pole block the road, in this case busy Bothell Way / SR 522.
Even though this was the only power outage in City Light territory, it still was a complex enough job that it took crews all night to repair, replace, and restore power.
Enjoy those lights!
This sort of thing doesn't happen to underground wiring. Here where I live (in Shoreline), we are being charged a surplus charge on our electric bills to pay for the cost of undergrounding wiring in the rich neighborhoods while our wires remain above ground and subject to falling trees.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I actually pay a surplus for the rich neighborhoods, but I do know that the overhead wires on my street are ugly. We replaced the water main years ago and that was added to the title of my home. I wish they had buried the lines at that time.
ReplyDeleteMitch if you look at your power bill it lists the surcharge for every neighborhood being undergrounded. I and presumably you, pay all of these surcharges, if you total everything up you'll find it is the total you pay, and unless you're either near the water front or in a business district, your neighborhood isn't getting the benefits.
