SIFF lineup at Shoreline Community College announced: Usher, Rachel Weisz, and Elisabeth Moss among big names in films coming to campus

The 42nd annual Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) released its lineup of films this week, and Shoreline Community College is excited to announce the 25 films being shown at the campus’s state-of-the-art theater May 27 - June 4 as an official venue of the festival.

Shoreline’s Opening Night film is The Tenth Man starring Alan Sabbagh along with R/B singer, Usher, as his father. The film was an Official Selection at both Tribeca Film Festival and Berlinale Film Festival. SIFF has invited director Daniel Burman to attend and, if available, he will hold a discussion after the film with the audience.

Shoreline Community College Foundation will host a wine tasting and Opening Night After Party to follow the screening of The Tenth Man. The after party will feature music by the College’s own funk band, Funk and Groove. Hors d'oeuvres will be served, and drinks will be available at a no-host bar. The SIFF lineup of films at Shoreline is full of big name stars including Elisabeth Moss of Mad Men fame, who stars in the SIFF film The Free World alongside Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl). Cobie Smulders (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Clea DuVall (Argo) appear in the romantic comedy The Intervention. Hollywood darling Rachel Weisz (The Fountain) takes a turn in Complete Unknown, and August Diehl (Inglorious Basterds) comes to Shoreline’s screen in Come What May.

Along with Hollywood A-listers, SIFF’s lineup at Shoreline also brings international filmmaking to campus, with offerings ranging from The People vs. Fritz Bauer, a film from acclaimed German director Lars Kraume and the Audience Award winner at the 2015 Locarno International Film Festival, to Battledream Chronicle, the first feature-length animated film from the Caribbean island of Martinique.

Several films with local ties are also in the SIFF lineup at Shoreline, including Big Sonia, a documentary by beloved Seattle filmmakers Leah Warshawski and Todd Soliday, and Finding October, written, directed, and edited by Nick Terry, a Shoreline Community College Performance Arts/ Digital Filmmaking program alumnus. Finding October is Terry’s third feature film and his second to play at SIFF. If available, he will participate in a Q/A after the Finding October screening.

Buzz is also circulating around Spa Night, which won the U.S. Dramatic Breakthrough Performance Award at Sundance for lead Joe Seo, and around the North American premiere of The Patriarch, a film from acclaimed director Lee Tamahori.
