Heather Hiatt has been selected as the principal of Kellogg Middle School, pending school board approval, Superintendent Rebecca Miner announced today. She will replace Lisa Gonzalez who recently accepted an offer to become the principal at Shorecrest High School at the end of the school year.
Heather joined Shorecrest this past August after serving as an assistant principal at Woodinville High School since 2012. She began her career in education in 1999 as a middle school science teacher at College Place Middle School in Edmonds. She has also served as a science teacher at Squalicum High School in Bellingham and Shorewood High School.
“Heather brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will support high levels of success for Kellogg’s students and staff,” said Superintendent Rebecca Miner. “She has helped lead some very important initiatives in her previous roles, including staff instructional development and aligning instructional frameworks to meet learning standards.”
Heather’s selection followed an extensive search and interview process involving student, staff and community representation.
Heather completed her master’s degree in teaching at the University of Washington and her principal’s certification at Western Washington University. She also holds bachelor degrees in science and psychology from Seattle University and the University of Oregon respectively.
Heather was my science teacher in middle school at CPM! She is an amazing lady and teacher, full of positive energy and creative ideas! She is one of the several teachers who inspired me to teach. I'm not surprised she's inspiring as an administrator. Congratulations, Ms. Hiatt!
