Tulips Photo by Wayne Pridemore |
Reader Vicki Michels shared this story about Skagit Valley tulips:
When I was in Amsterdam years ago, I bought some tulips to send back for planting. I asked the man how well they might grow where I live. Of course he asked where that was. I figured they might be more familiar with the tulip growers than the towns, so I said "Skagit Valley". He just waved a hand, laughed, and took my order. They arrived, planted well, etc.
It was only years later that I discovered that Kuchenoff, the tulip park I was visiting, actually imports their bulbs from Skagit Valley!
No wonder he laughed.
