Get ready for another bait and switch, Shoreline! Just like the 185th rezone, the City was "only studying" the most gregarious of the options for the 145th corridor WIDENING project.
ReplyDeleteApparently, the committee, consultants, staff and whoever don't appreciate the Shoreline residents describing the biggest options studied as "the size of eight lanes". According to them it's "fearmongering" as they seem to think Shoreliners don't have that great a grasp on the English language.
How else would one describe the most drastic option for change, which is comprised of six traffic lanes plus, 8 foot wide sidewalks AND 5 foot wide separated bikes on each side. Actually, the combination of the sidewalks and bike lanes is wider than a traffic lane. So, let's just call it the width of MORE THAN EIGHT TRAFFIC Lanes, and NINE at the intersections with turn pockets.
Who's going to pay for all of this property acquisition?
What they really should be doing, is pushing for a road diet, and restricting one lane in each direction to transit only. More lanes of traffic is only going to encourage more cars on the road. Why should the affordable homes and multi-family complexes on 145th be demolished to make way for the high-density, transit-oriented development that's popped up in Kenmore and Bothell over the last few years. Oh wait... they all have cars and don't take transit.
I can't WAIT to see what they have in store for widening 185th.
