Diggin' Shoreline is busy in March with three free community events

Dormant season over! Diggin’ Shoreline kicks off 2016 growing season with 3 great community events

The dormant season is coming to an end. Time to get gardening! Diggin’ Shoreline’s 2016 emphasis is TREES. Here’s where you will find us in the coming weeks:

Saturday, February 27, 10am to noon

Diggin’ will host its annual Tool Sharpening and Story Telling Event at the Shoreline Children’s Center on Saturday, Feb 27 from 10:00am to Noon. A sharp tool is a gardener’s best friend, and sharpening those rusty, dull pruners and shovels is more fun with friends! Pick up some tips from the experts. In the school’s mini-orchard, there’ll be a demonstration on planting bare root trees, and making proper pruning cuts. Storytelling and hot chocolate round out the activities. Dress for the weather and bring your family, friends, tools, and work gloves. This is a kid-friendly event. Address: 1900 N 170th St, Shoreline 98133.

Monday, March 7, 7pm

Ballinger Neighborhood Association has invited Diggin’ Shoreline to show their presentation on The History of Locally Produced Food on Monday, March 7 at 7pm at North City Water District. It’s a fascinating look at our neighborhoods as told from the unique perspective of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park historical food production. In researching the original article, author Brian Peterka worked closely with Vicki Stiles, director of the Shoreline Historical Museum. The presentation is both anecdotal and informative, and one gardeners and history buffs alike are sure to enjoy! Open to the public. Address: 1510 NE 177th St, Shoreline 98155.

Saturday, March 12, 10am to 2:00pm

Look for Diggin’ at the Lake Forest Park Earth Smart Green Fair on Saturday, March12 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Lake Forest Park Town Center where we’ll again join other organizations in sharing information on environmentally safe living through natural yard care and organic gardening practices.

Diggin’ Shoreline is an all-volunteer, 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. We envision people throughout our city inspired and nourished by gardening in community, with deep connections to our earth, our health, our cultures, and our neighbors. We invite you to imagine with us.
