District 1 tennis results - T-Bird players reach the finals - team leads competition

Shorewood T-Birds Hugh Gaevert and Kyle Berquist in doubles, Gunnar Thorstenson in singles all reached the championship finals to qualify for the WIAA State Tennis Tournament.

Shorewood is leading the tournament in a bid for the District 1 team championship.

Berquist and Gaevert started with a win over the WesCo North doubles champions from Stanwood and then defeated the WesCo South number three team from Mountlake Terrace to reach the championship final.

Thorstenson won in straight sets over his first round opponent from Oak Harbor then defeated the WesCo North singles champion to reach the singles final.

District 1 finals are Thursday, October 29 at Skagit Valley Community College tennis courts starting at 1pm.

The WIAA state tennis tournament will be held in at Kamiakin high school and Tri-City Court Club in Kennewick, Washington next May.
