Once again the area’s leading dahlia club – the Puget Sound Dahlia Association – visits Sky Nursery to display the largest mass of quality blooms in natural light. The show features single blooms, arrangements, and baskets in a dazzling display of summer color.
Judging the show takes up much of Saturday morning, as teams of experienced judges move among the nearly 100 tables. The show organizers request that morning visitors give the teams space to evaluate each entry; some assignments require several trips back and forth to winnow the candidates.
Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm the PSDA will present a free seminar on raising dahlias.
On Sunday afternoon the awards will be handed to winners; then the show closes at 4pm.
Since the Northwest is now America’s foremost growing region, the dahlia – with its lengthy blooming season – offers the home gardener a superb selection of blooms that are guaranteed to thrive. Information about raising dahlias can be found at the PSDA Information Booth at the show.
