Book Review by Aarene Storms: The Reason for Dragons

The Reason for Dragons by Christ Northrup and Jeff Stokely

16-year-old Wendell is a loser. His step-dad Ted thinks he's a wimp, the older kids bully him, and he has no friends ... until the night he accepts a dare to sneak into the old Renaissance Faire, and meets up with a red knight who warns of a dragon trying to incinerate the Faire.

Is the knight really a knight, or actually a mentally unstable former Faire employee? Wendall plays along for a while.

And then the dragon shows up.

This quick-paced, beautifully illustrated graphic novel will appeal to readers who appreciate a wobbly fictional line between fantasy and real life. No cussing, no sex, some violence.

Rating:
Recommended for ages 12 to adult.

The events may not have happened; still, the story is true.  --R. Silvern
