Local sports teams named as State Academic Champions

The Dairy Farmers of Washington, Les Schwab Tires and Washington
Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) are excited to announce
the 2015 Spring Team Academic State Champions for boys' and girls' golf,
tennis, track and field; boys' baseball and soccer,
and girls' softball.
Teams from King’s High School and Shorewood
High School have been recognized as Academic State Champions.
- The 16 participants from the Boys Soccer 1A team from King’s earned a team grade point average of 3.688.
- The 12 participants from the Boys Golf 1A team from King’s earned a team grade point average of 3.753.
- The 15 participants from the Softball 3A team from Shorewood earned a team grade point average of 3.750.
The award program was created not only to recognize and reward teams that maintained the highest GPA in their sport and classification, but also to acknowledge the teams with GPAs over 3.0. If a team averages a 3.0-3.49 GPA they qualify for the Distinguished Team Award, while a team with a GPA between 3.50 -4.00 receives the Outstanding Team Award. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association is a private, non-profit service organization made up of 800 member high schools and middle level schools from every corner of the state.
