LFP Councilman Johnson to challenge Mayor Goss

Lake Forest Park City Councilman Jeff Johnson will challenge Mayor Mary Jane Goss in the coming election.

Both filed for the position this week.

Goss will be seeking a second four-year term as mayor.

Johnson will leave the council position he has held for four years. He runs an auto repair business in Lake Forest Park.

If no one else files for the position, the two will meet in the November general election. If this or any position has three or more candidates, it will appear on the August primary ballot with the top two vote getters advancing to the November ballot.

Two other LFP Council members, Catherine Stanford and Tom French, both have filed for re-election. With Johnson giving up his Council seat, political newcomer Phillippa Kassover has filed for the seat that Johnson now holds. None of the three yet has an opponent.

Filing lasts through Friday.
