Letter to the Editor: Gratitude and Pride For Our Teachers
Tuesday, May 12, 2015
To the Editor:
I was proud to be one of the citizen participants in the rally of teachers, students and community on Monday afternoon. The many speakers reminded us of the ethical imperative to fund our schools adequately and reduce class size.
I am a life-time resident in Shoreline, an alumni of Highland Terrace Elementary School's opening year; Butler Junior High (where Shorewood HS is now); and the old Shoreline HS (where the Shoreline Center is currently).
I am also the father of 6 Shoreline students, 2 of whom are successful college graduates, one graduating this weekend from Tufts and 2 more still in HS. And finally, my mom was a kindergarten teacher in the Shoreline district for her entire career.
Needless to say my ties to this area and school district run deep. The only thing I feel compelled to add to all of the wonderful words, enthusiasm and passion for learning that I witnessed at the rally is a deep, enduring gratitude.
We are truly blessed to have such dedicated teachers and staff and a community that stands behind them. Shoreline - you ROCK!

Thank you for this wonderful letter of support David. I agree that there's an "ethical imperative to fund our schools adequately and reduce class size." I hope our state also sees that the poorly designed SBAC is taking away learning opportunities, narrowing our curriculum, and causing undue stress on our students. Thank you for coming out to the march and rally.
The walk out was nothing to be proud of, I'd lose my job and let a lot of people down if I did something so shameful. As a taxpayer, I'm not getting what I fund.
