Dembowski statement on the retirement of Shoreline City Councilmember Chris Eggen

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Rod Dembowski released this statement on today’s announcement that Shoreline City Councilmember Chris Eggen will not seek reelection:

“Chris Eggen has served the City of Shoreline and our region and nation with humility, sincerity, and intelligence. His dedication to progressive values, careful stewardship of taxpayer funds, and his long-range thinking will benefit generations to come. 

"It has been an honor to serve alongside Chris as we have worked to improve transportation in our region, protect our environment, honor and support our veterans, and invest in healthy futures for our children. 

"I look forward to his continued involvement in our region’s civic work, in whatever capacity he may choose. I also thank his wife Donna, and children Brian and Kristy for sharing their father with our community. I know that is a tremendous sacrifice, especially for a workhorse like Chris, who serves in so many roles.”

Councilmember Eggen’s Biography:

“Chris Eggen was elected to the City Council in 2007 and 2011. He grew up in Seattle and attended the UW in Physics and Electrical Engineering. Chris married Donna Kenney in 1967. They have two children, Brian and Kristy, who both graduated from Shorecrest High School. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired in 2008 as a project manager from the UW Applied Physics Laboratory. 

"Chris has a long record of community involvement supporting youth and education, environmental issues, local business, and the City of Shoreline. He participated in Shoreline YMCA programs with his children and coached a number of youth sports teams. He served on the boards of the Paramount Park Neighborhood Group, the Shoreline Solar Project, and Sustainable Shoreline. He has served on the board of the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce, on the Shoreline Housing Advisory Committee, and on the Parks Bond Committee. Chris is currently treasurer of the Shoreline Dollars for Scholars. 

"On the Council, Chris is a strong advocate of transit and is chair of the SeaShore Transportation Forum and has been a member of three other policy-setting regional transportation committees. He is also active on other regional issues and is Vice Chair of the Municipal Solid Waste Advisory Committee and is on the Executive Committee of the Suburban Cities Association. 

"Chris was raised by a single mom who worked as a union waitress and is a strong union supporter. He is a Democratic PCO and on the 32 LD Democrat Executive Board. His hobbies are walking, reading history and science, and golf. 

"His term expires December 31, 2015.”
