Music Fit for Royalty at the Shoreline Concert Band winter concert Mar 10

Tuesday March 10 the Shoreline Concert Band presents its winter concert, “Music Fit for Royalty.” 

The concert starts at 7:30pm in the Shorewood High Performing Arts Center, 17300 Fremont Ave. N in Shoreline. The community is welcome to attend. There will be no admission charge for the concert, but donations will gladly be accepted for the band’s scholarship fund.

Guest groups on this concert are the Lynnwood Community Band and the Shorewood High School Wind Ensemble.

Each of the directors of these groups have ties to the Shoreline Concert Band. Chris Davis directs the Lynnwood group, but also has and still is a member of the Shoreline Concert Band, playing tuba in the group since it began 31 years ago. Dave Johnson directs the bands at Shorewood High School, but is also the Associate Director of the Shoreline Concert Band.

Other special parts of this concert are the inclusion and honoring of the All-State and All-NW high school musicians from our two local high schools. 

Nine students will be honored by Shoreline Community College President Cheryl Roberts during the evening. This is a tradition Ken Noreen started some  twenty years ago when he took over the directorship of the group. He feels it is important for the local college to recognize the accomplishments of the talented high school musicians in our area.

Another person will be recognized for his selection to the national College Band Directors Association Honor Band. These students will join in the group to perform one selection,  “Procession of the Nobles.” Jonathan Woods, talented SCC student percussionist, will travel this month to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in this very special band made up of students from throughout the country.

Dr. Charles Enslow, pianist

The musical highlight of the evening will be the playing of the Grieg Piano Concerto in A Minor first movement. Dr. Charles Enlow will be the featured artist. Dr. Enlow is a SCC music faculty member. This very familiar work will be Dr. Enlow’s second appearance with the Shoreline Concert Band. He is the current director of the Opera Workshop and spring musical at Shoreline Community College.
