Construction Update

N 200th Street east of Aurora to the first driveway into Aurora Village / Costco is reduced to one lane of traffic for approximately 6 months in order for crews to install a joint utility trench and a structural sidewalk.

Eastbound traffic should be aware that there is now a stop sign on 200th, right at the Costco entrance closest to Aurora. It's a temporary sign and people are apparently having difficulty getting used to it. - Editor
Traffic is in the eastbound direction. Transit routes leaving the Aurora Transit Center have changed. Please visit King County Metro and Community Transit for the latest details. Roadway Work
Irrigation and landscaping work will continue along Aurora between N 200th Street and north of N 205th Street.
Over the next several weeks, new luminaire poles will be installed on the west side of Aurora.
Temporary asphalt ramps in the future bus lane will be removed and other work will take place to prepare for the traffic switch to the west side. Steel plate ramps will be used in the interim for business access until the traffic is switched later this month.

During this time, the southbound direction of Aurora and the affected side streets may be restricted to one lane during the daytime non-commute hours to perform any of the work above.

Utility Work
Joint utility trench excavation and installation will occur on N 200th Street east of Aurora over the next several weeks. Work will also occur on the east side of Aurora. The northbound direction of Aurora will be restricted to one lane during the daytime non-commute hours to perform this work, weather permitting.

So, 6 more months of disruption along 8th AVE for residents dealing with 2story tall mounds of soil, debris, dump trucks running from 645am to 5pm M-F and holidays.

When you mention 200th being one-way eastbound from Aurora, would you also note there is now a STOP sign on 200th at the Costco entrance? The woman who sailed down the hill Friday and almost smashed me needs to pay closer attention in construction zones!
Well put, @ Tabitha! No notice, the transit agencies were late in posting anything on their websites (the #331's revised route still isn't posted), and the implications on traffic were never mentioned. Hint: the latter impacts Shoreline's sales tax revenues, for Aurora Village is a major -if not the major - source of sales tax revenue for the city.
I emailed Metro the week before the change took effect, but didn't hear back until the week after the week it took effect. On Metro's website, one has to hunt for the revisions. There is a way to pull up all of them together, that is, if you know all of the route #s.
The biggest "platoon" of buses travels between the gas station and Meridian on 200th. Some of those buses turn north on Meridian, while others turn south, most notably Metro's RapidRide. At some hours of the day,such as late weekday afternoons, it takes multiple traffic light cycles for them to be able to turn, which backs up the traffic further towards Aurora Village. It's apparent that nobody has changed the signal light timing to account for the increased bus traffic at any of these intersections. At 205th, some use the segment between Aurora and Meridian, primarily Community Transit buses.
