Report of Armed Male on School Grounds

Statement from the King County Sheriff's Department

Incident Happened Before Elementary School Was Open

Shoreline: At 7:20am this morning Shoreline Police responded to the report of an armed male seen on the property of Meridian Park Elementary school in the 17400 block of Meridian Ave North. A school employee reported he had been making a delivery at the school when he saw a male that he believed had some type of long gun.

This unknown male made a statement that alluded to him going to all of the schools. There was nothing else said. The employee took this as a threat and he went into the school and called 9-1-1.

The elementary school was immediately placed in lockdown. School hadn’t started, and there were only a few children on site. A search of the school grounds and buildings didn’t find anything amiss. A K9 unit from Seattle Police attempted a track with negative results. Other Shoreline schools were placed in lockdown and officers and deputies were sent to every school in the district to check for the suspect.

The school district made the decision to close all district schools for the day. Shoreline Police, Lake Forest Police, and King County Sheriff’s deputies assisted at each of these schools to make sure all children were safe and accounted for.

The only description of the suspect is a male of unknown age and unknown race. He was described as wearing a dark hoodie with the hood up and camouflage pants.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. No suspect has been identified or arrested. The investigation will continue and anyone with information on this incident is urged to call the King County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at 206- 296-3311.

  1. Did they question the trolls that live under 175th at Ronald Bog Park? Time to clean out that homeless camp, wouldn't you say?

  2. If they're questioning trolls, perhaps they should start with you.

  3. It should be noted that in 2014, Shoreline PD (KCSO) and Lake Forest Park PD participated in a joint active shooter drill and have a unified process for addressing threats like this.

  4. Umm.... did anyone ever hear anything more about this? I mean, other than the incredibly vague details when this happened?

I have to say, I honestly think this was BS. Maybe someone didn't feel like being at work that day? It's happened with bomb scares in the past...

No name released of the witness. As for the suspect. No estimated age....ok. Unknown race? Sure.... but you could make out he had on a hoodie and "camouflage". What kind of hoodie? Color? Any logos? How about the camo? Was it standard green/beige? Urban style? White/black? Did his clothes look like they were in good shape, or were they tattered? REALLY?! NONE of those details?! getting weird. How about approximate height and weight/build? Accent? I mean, he did make that threat about going to "all the schools"...(and what does that even mean?!) Why didn't anyone else see this shadow man?
