WeatherWatcher: High Wind Watch

Tuesday, December 9, 2014

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a High Wind Watch for the greater Puget Sound region, this includes the cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park. The watch is in effect for late Wednesday night and all day Thursday.

Models are starting to indicate a very powerful low pressure system developing off the northern coast of California and moving north - northeast up the coast of Washington and into Vancouver Island. Right now winds are expected to be out of the south sustained around 30-40mph with gusts to 65mph possible.

Timing for these strong winds are expected to pick up for our area Thursday sometime during the late morning and afternoon. Winds likely will last through the evening commute.

Winds this strong will likely bring down large tree branches and trees of any size. Wide spread power outages and dark intersections are also likely. I will post another update when the High Wind watch is upgraded to a warning.

As always I will post information as I see it at http://www.shorelineweather.com.
