Shorewood tennis players in championship matches this week

Shorewood's number 1 seeded doubles team of Cameron McDowell and Jack Bong won two straight matches to advance to the WesCo South doubles final championship match. The T-Birds doubles team has qualified for next week's District 1 tennis tournament at Jackson high school. McDowell and Bong defeated teams from Glacier Peak and Mountlake Terrace.

Shorewood's other doubles team, number 2 seeded Scott Park and Kyle Berquist, defeated a team from Edmonds - Woodway in a hard fought three set match to advance to the semi-final match.

Shorewood singles players Hugh Gaevert and Gunnar Thorstenson stayed alive by winning their first round matches. Gaevert defeated opponents from Mountlake Terrace and Edmonds- Woodway. Thorstenson defeated an opponent from Mountlake Terrace in his first match then lost a close match, 4-6, 4-6, to the number 2 seed from Meadowdale. His third match was suspended due to darkness and will be continued when the tournament starts again.

The league tournament was scheduled to start Wednesday October 22 and be rescheduled to the first dry day this week. Matches start at 1pm at Glacier Peak high school.
