Artists and Crafters Unite! Time to put your business hats, roll up your sleeves, and get down and dirty with the numbers and paperwork side of being an artist.
This fall the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council will be hosting a series of Art/ Business Workshops designed to help you put your best foot forward. You’ve already done the hard work of pouring your talents and skills into your art, now let us help you take that next step and polish your professional side.

Hidden Hazards in the Arts – September 16 FREE!

Artists can learn about safer chemicals, storage and disposal at a free Hidden Hazards in the Arts workshop sponsored by the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County (LHWMP), and the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council. Participants will learn helpful tips on how they can protect themselves from the many toxic chemicals typically used in a variety of artistic mediums.
Donna Galstad, a Health and Environmental Investigator with the LHWMP Art Hazards team, will discuss art techniques, options for less-toxic art supplies and ways to reduce risks from chemicals, as well as other services, such as disposal and recycling.
Professional Practices in the Arts – September 30 Get tickets online

Polish your professional side! This workshop will go over various artwork pricing methods, proper artwork presentation and framing, knowing your market, and self promotion tools.
Presented by Lorie Hoffman, the marketing manager for the Shoreline – Lake Forest Park Arts Council, topics covered will also include how to approach galleries, knowing when to pay for a show and when not, and where you can find more resources to continue to polish your professional side.

Whether you are thinking about starting your first business or are a seasoned, serial entrepreneur, a thorough understanding of how to setup and structure your business will maximize the potential of your venture. This workshop will take you through legal issues in setting up and operating your business. You will leave a framework for understanding how to recognize and resolve the legal issues involved with setting up and operating a business.

WA State and Local Taxes – October 28 Get tickets online
6:30pm – Shoreline City Hall, 3rd Floor meeting rooms
In this workshop, we’ll review Washington State business taxes including B/O, Sales, Use, Personal Property, and other taxes. We’ll also discuss City of Seattle taxes and briefly touch on taxes in other Washington cities, too. We’ll highlight filing procedures and record keeping, and point you to other resources that may help you when it’s time to sit down and do your own taxes.
